In all of the interviews I have seen on TV with, so-called military experts, I have never heard this question asked: Over sixty years ago, during the second World War, the armed services had mine detecting equipment. Newsreels showed minefields being cleared using this equipment so that advancing troops had a clear path through a minefield. The greatest cause of our casualties in Iraq has been from roadside bombs. Surely. in the sixty plus years that have passed since the second World War there should have been great advances in mine detecting technology. Surely, with this greater technology these roadside bombs should be detectable from a safe distance and detonated without endangering our soldiers and Marines.
Did our military not do the necessary research to improve the technology? Is the proper equipment not available because our industries have been exported to foreign countries?
I hope someone can enlighten me on this subject.
Whatever the reason the unnecessary loss of life makes me FURIOUS!!!
