In one of his last acts as Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld sent a memo to President Bush with some suggestions about changing strategy in Iraq. One of the suggestions was to send troops to the borders with Iran and Syria to stop the flow of arms and terrorists from those two countries into Iraq. DUH! If it took Rumsfeld three years to figure that out I guess it's good that he is leaving.
What is with these people about securing borders? They won't secure our border with Mexico. Fortunately, most of those invading from Mexico are peons looking for a job, but no doubt there are a few terrorists thrown into the mix and of course the inevitable drug smugglers who will be given amnesty when caught so they can send Border Patrol Agents to prison by testifying against them.
Now as to winning the Iraq war it's really quite simple. Almost as simple as securing the borders so our enemies can't be reinforced.
We can win this war in the same way we won World War II. Then we sent armadas of bombers over German and Japanese cities and pounded them to dust. We can win the Iraq War by using the same tactics on a smaller scale.
When a roadside bomb, a so-called Improvised Explosive Device, is planted and eventually is used to kill or maim our men, the "innocent" civilians in the area are well aware that it has been planted. The reason they say nothing is because they are afraid of the terrorists and are not afraid of us. This must be reversed. But how do we accomplish this? By using the tactics that won the Second World War. When a roadside bomb goes off our men should be withdrawn a safe distance and an artillery barrage called in to level the immediate area. This may seem like a harsh measure but if the Iraqis are to fear us more than they fear the terrorists it is a necessary measure.
The same goes for any time our men draw any kind of enemy fire. At the first sign of enemy resistance our men are withdrawn a safe distance and the artillery is called in to do its thing. Once the Iraqis understand that their homes and families are in more jeopardy from us than they are from the terrorists they will be only too eager to help us.
Some will no doubt say that these tactics are too harsh. That we are killing "innocent" civilians. I say they are not innocent if they know our men are to be attacked and say nothing. They are aiding and abetting our enemies and are as guilty as the terrorists.
No doubt our cowardly politicians won't do any of these things and will continue to sacrifice our men unnecessarily.
This makes me FURIOUS!!!
