In the American Revolution the watchword was, "No taxation without representation." This single abuse of power led to the revolution that created the greatest and freest nation ever seen on this earth.
These days if they just taxed us without really representing us it would be a great improvement.
We vote the Republicans in when they promise improvements in government. When they don't fulfill their promises we vote them out. Then we vote the Democrats in amid promises to be more responsive to the wishes of the people. What we get is more of the same just with different labels.
If this was really a free country we would be able to have alternatives to the Democans and Republicrats but we don't. The two dominant parties, I'd call them major parties but since neither really represents a majority of the people I won't do that, have the electoral process so stacked against any other party getting on the ballot it is almost impossible to make real change.
Both parties pledge to root out corruption but when a candidate has to spend millions of dollars to be elected to a job that pays $150k per year there is something rotten in Washington.
The government only represents the monied interests who make the huge campaign "contributions" that make the million dollar campaigns possible. The politicians may call them campaign contributions but when somebody makes a contribution and then has special access to an elected official and is able to influence legislation favorable to him/herself that is bribery, plain and simple.
Thomas Jefferson said, "Occasionally, the tree of liberty must be refreshed with the blood of tyrants and patriots." This seems like one of those times.
This makes me FURIOUS!!!!!
