The storm of protest over the so-called immigration "reform" bill has provided a golden opportunity for the average American to once again take charge of the government which is supposed to represent them but has not done so for many years.
When the elitists in the Senate saw the magnitude of the animosity toward this bill, which might imperil their chances of re-election, they changed not only horses but their votes in mid-stream.
Now that the people are aroused there should be campaigns to enact laws that should be so obvious for the good of the nation that they should have been enacted long ago.
For instance: English should be enacted as the official language of the United States. For ballots to be printed in languages other than English is so obviously wrong that only politicians and lawyers could condone it. Since only citizens are supposed to be able to vote and one of the requirements to become a citizen is to be familiar with English printing ballots in foreign languages should not be necessary. While we are on the subject of voting producing a picture ID should be mandatory to vote. Voting by ineligible people has become all too common, sometimes even condoned by the very officials who are supposed to monitor the fairness of elections.
Next, the so-called anchor baby rule, by which illegal aliens gain residence in the US should be abolished. This rule declares that anyone born in the United States is a citizen by right of birth. An illegal alien woman who breaks our laws by sneaking over the border and gives birth here can then bring in her whole family because her baby is a citizen.
Now we should DEMAND real border enforcement and enforcement of the immigration laws now on the books. We don't need new laws. All we need is for our elected officials, including the president, to live up to their oaths of office. They are charged with enforcing the laws of the land and have been derelict in their duties. If they refuse to enforce the laws they should be thrown out of office.
It will be very difficult to get these reforms through congress but if we can mount a campaign equal to the one that defeated the immigration bill we can do it.
The elites in the Senate will, I am sure , fight these proposals tooth and nail.
And this makes me FURIOUS!!!
