NY times headline: "Republicans not enthused"
This refers to the fact that Republican voters aren't very enthusiastic about any of the many candidates vying for the Republican nomination. The "many" may be part of the problem. It's hard to get enthusiastic about any candidate when there are as many as nine contending for the nomination.
But there are other reasons as well. The candidates and the media are indulging in irrelevancies. Instead of talking about what policies they will pursue if elected, the so-called top tier candidates, are talking and arguing about Giuliani's marriages, Huckabee's espousal of in-state tuition for illegal aliens and worst of all Romney's religion. I would remind the candidates that Article VI Section 3 of the Constitution of the United States says, "...no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any public office or public trust under the United States." That should be the end of that.
A short time ago I emailed one of the candidates (it doesn't matter which one I'm sure the result would have been the same) asking some specific questions about our energy crisis. I wanted to know if he would push for development of our undeveloped petroleum resources in the Green River area of Colorado and surrounding states (oil shale), in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) and offshore.
What I got back was an answer filled with platitudes about a program to develop a broad range of fuel alternatives including ethanol, solar, wind blah, blah, blah.
Not a word about any of the specific locations I mentioned. This evasive answer was calculated to not offend the environmental wackos. I have news for all of the Republican candidates: THEY WON'T VOTE FOR YOU NO MATTER WHAT YOU SAY!!!
Developing alternate fuels is fine but in the short run (10 years) we need OIL.
Are they going to sustain this "free" trade insanity which has decimated many of our industries including some that are vital to our national defense.
Will they press for quick completion of the border fence? Ironically, the fence, what little of it has been built, is being built partly with Chinese steel.
I think the idea is plain enough. Stop wasting time on trivia. Get specific. It will probably result in some being forced out of the race. So be it.
Lethargy like this could continue into the general election which would be disastrous for Republicans.
Can anyone say President Hillary?
This makes me FURIOUS!!!!!
