John McCain has been portrayed as a war hero, not only for his service as a Navy pilot, but because as a POW he refused early repatriation when the North Vietnamese communists found out his father was an admiral in the US Navy.
A noble gesture to be sure but something doesn't smell right. McCain was completely in the power of the communists as a POW. He and the other prisoners were subjected to physical and mental torture. The communists could do as they pleased with them. Some were even killed. Releasing McCain would have been a propaganda coup for the communists showing how benevolent they were. When the time came for his release McCain refused and the communists said, "OK John we won't show the world what great humanitarians we are even though you are a war criminal." In this one instance the communists granted a POW's request?
Makes you think doesn't it?
