RESTORING REPRESENTATION

Where to begin? Illegal aliens? The trade deficit? Johnny Sutton's persecution of the border Patrol? No, let's get right to the root cause of our problems: Our un-representative government.

Anyone who thinks our government represents the average American, as it should, is living in a fool's paradise. Because of the obscene amount of money needed to run an election campaign these days our politicians have become captives of big business.

The businessmen who supply the financing for these campaigns are not patriotic Americans. Their only concern is profits. They will move jobs and even whole industries out of the country not because they can't make a profit here but because they can make bigger profits by having their products made by cheap foreign labor.

The latest polls show that both the president and congress have approval ratings below thirty per cent. It's hard to see how congress could have a lower approval rating than George Bush.  I suppose that just shows that 535 cooks can screw things up worse than one incompetent.

So how do we change things? I believe the answer is to throw out  the 535 old farts we now have running things and start over with a clean slate. Nothing puts the fear of God  into  these louts like the possibility of losing their cushy jobs. Once they see that incumbency and loads of campaign cash are no guarantee  of re-election  they might pay more attention to their constituents instead of the campaign contributors and ethnic groups.

It's true we might lose some of the few good people in Washington and some of the bums will be re-elected but if a large number of incumbents are defeated even the arrogant thick heads will get the idea that it might be their turn next.

So my advice is this: DON'T VOTE FOR INCUMBENTS!!!!

Next to a bloody revolution, as advocated by Thomas Jefferson, this may be the only way to regain control of our government.

And this makes me FURIOUS!!!

WHILE THE IRON IS HOT

The storm of protest over the so-called immigration "reform" bill has provided a golden opportunity for the average American to once again take charge of the government which is supposed to represent them but has not done so for many years.

When the elitists in the Senate saw the magnitude of the animosity toward this bill, which might imperil their chances of re-election, they changed not only horses but their votes in mid-stream.

Now that the people are aroused there should be campaigns to enact laws that should be so obvious for the good of the nation that they should have been enacted long ago.

For instance: English should be enacted as the official language of the United States. For ballots to be printed in languages other than English is so obviously wrong that only politicians and lawyers could condone it. Since only citizens are supposed to be able to vote and one of the requirements to become a citizen is to be familiar with English  printing ballots in foreign languages should not be necessary.While we are on the subject of voting producing a picture ID should be mandatory to vote. Voting by ineligible people has become all too common, sometimes even condoned by the very officials who are supposed to monitor the fairness of elections.

Next, the so-called anchor baby rule, by which illegal aliens gain residence in the US should be abolished. This rule declares that anyone born in the United States is a citizen by right of birth. An illegal alien woman who breaks our laws by sneaking over the border and gives birth here can then bring in her whole family because her baby is a citizen.

Now we should DEMAND real border enforcement and enforcement of the immigration laws now on the books. We don't need new laws. All we need is for our elected officials, including the president, to live up to their oaths of office. They are charged with enforcing  the laws of the land and have been derelict in their duties. If they refuse to enforce the laws they should be thrown out of office.

It will be very difficult to get these reforms through congress but if we can mount a campaign equal to the one that defeated the immigration bill we can do it.
The elites in the Senate will, I am sure , fight these proposals tooth and nail.

And this makes me FURIOUS!!!

Wanted: A Pro-American President

In light of recent events I would like to redistribute this article which I originally published over two years ago. Comments will be appreciated

WANTED: A PRO-AMERICAN PRESIDENT

What the United States needs at this point in history is a president who puts the welfare of this country before all other considerations. That is a pro-American president.

We need a president who will unleash the full might of the American military in Iraq to bring this costly war to a victorious end. If it means bombing the country into a pile of rubble then so be it. It worked on Germany and Japan and it will work in Iraq.

We need a president who will tell North Korea that if they want to waste their resources on building nuclear weapons, while their people starve, they should go ahead. But if they dare to use nuclear or conventional weapons on anyone we will turn their third rate country into a radioactive wasteland.

We need a president who will tell Iran and Syria to stop interfering in Iraq in any way and to refer to the above paragraph.

We need a president who, if he can't get it through the thick heads in Congress, will declare a national emergency and open all potential oil fields to drilling including the North Slope of Alaska. At the same time we will initiate a crash program to develop alternative energy sources.

We need a president who will tell Federal judges to stop interfering in the right of states to govern themselves. Popular ballot initiatives are routinely declared unconstitutional on the flimsiest of grounds. If these judges can't abide by the Constitution they just might face the danger of having their jobs abolished.

We need a president who will vigorously enforce our immigration laws starting at the Mexican border. Security should be so tight that even a Mexican mouse can't sneak in.

We need a president who will get us out of all international trade organizations. Our trade policies should be decided by congress not by some bureaucrats in Brussels.

We need a president with courage enough to veto all bills containing pork regardless of which party put it in.

There are many other things that a president should do to bring our country up to the high standards that used to prevail. Too many to be listed here and that just shows to what a low state we have sunk.

None of the major candidates of either party comes close to these standards.

This makes me    FURIOUS!!!!

Summer Soldiers and Sunshine Patriots

In 1776 when the American Army was freezing and dying at Valley Forge, Thomas Paine wrote these inspirational words:

"These are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot, will in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands by it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman."

The House of Representatives is, at this very moment, debating a non-binding resolution condemning the sending of more troops to Iraq in an effort to smash the Islamo-Fascists and stabilize not only Iraq but the entire Middle East.

The "summer soldiers" voted overwhelmingly to give President Bush the authority to invade Iraq, although even then they didn't have guts enough to issue a formal declaration of war. Now that the going has gotten tough the "sunshine patriots" , for purely political reasons want to cut and run.

These politicians who are stabbing our soldiers in the back should take a look at the consequences of surrendering to tyrants. Keeping in mind that we have suffered just over three thousand killed in three and a half years in Iraq.

In 1942 the United States in it's first offensive action of World War II invaded the island of Guadalcanal. Six months later, not three and a half years, after sustaining over seven thousand killed we finally won that battle and were on our way to victory.

The sunshine patriots, at the low point of the battle, when the Marines were just holding on by sheer determination, would have called for withdrawal. Japan would have become the dominant power in the Pacific. Negotiations would have led to a temporary peace. There would most assuredly would have been another war. The question is: could we have beaten a Japan which had consolidated it's conquests and had unlimited raw materials at it's disposal?

In 1944 Germany launched a surprise attack which has since been known as the Battle of the Bulge. Seven weeks later the battle was won by the Allies. In those seven weeks American forces suffered over 89,000 casualties including over 19,000 killed. Surely, the sunshine patriots would have called for a halt to the war. Hitler's Germany would have become the strongest power in Europe. When the next war broke out, as it inevitably would, we would have to confront a Germany much stronger than it was at the beginning of World War II.

If we withdraw from Iraq the consequences will be catastrophic for our country. The "summer soldiers and sunshine patriots" don't seem to care about that. Their only concern is their lust for political power. They care most for the good of their party and very little for the good of their country.

 Those who grow faint hearted when the going gets a little tough don't deserve to be in leadership positions in our government.

Paine also wrote:

"Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, the harder the conflict the more glorious the triumph."

Congressmen considering this resolution should keep in mind that it does nothing constructive. It is harmful to the war effort and injurious to the morale of our troops. Please reconsider, congressmen, and vote against this unpatriotic resolution.

This makes me FURIOUS!!!!

Injustice II

Ramos and Compean are still in prison. Two weeks have passed and these two men who were only trying to do their job of securing our border are still being unjustly held.

The only bright spot is that Press Secretary Tony Snow, who left an honorable job as a TV commentator to shill for the Bush administration, is going to have an informal meeting with some comgressmen to discuss the case. The meeting is being delayed, while Ramos and Compean languish in prison, because there is some difficulty getting a transcript of the trial.

It seems to me that a transcript is unecessary to reach a just conclusion in this case. A trial transcript is a record of lawyering the worst way to reach a fair conclusion in any case.

Let's just look at the facts that everyone agrees on:

This slimy Mexican skunk (my apologies to skunks everywhere) was trying to smuggle illegal drugs into the United States. He was caught by Ramos and Compean. He was shot by Ramos and Compean while trying to escape back to Mexico. Case closed. Ramos and Compean were doing their duty. If they committed some infraction of Border Patrol rules the harshest sentence they should have received was extra time on the pistol range so the next time they are in a similar situation the suspect won't be able to get away.

Let's look at one more thing.

Three of the jurors say they were misled to think that they had to come up with a unanimous verdict - that there could not be a hung jury. How do ignoramuses like this get on juries? And what were the other nine thinking to vote for conviction in the first place?
In spite of the protestations of the three jurors who said they were misled in the jury room the vicious judge refused to continue bail for Ramos and Compean, pending an appeal, and sent them to prison immediately.

Regardless of the obvious injustice done in this case Bush refuses to pardon these two men. He reserves his pardons for drug dealers and other felons.

This makes me FURIOUS!!!!!!

One Term Is Enough




One of the proposals put forth by the Republican Party before the 1994 Congressional election was the “Contract With America.” This contract contained a proposal for term limitations for elected officials. Generally, the limitation would be two terms of six years for senators and six terms of two years for members of the House of Representatives. This proposal was inspired by the fact that the Democrats had dominated the House and Senate for most of the preceding sixty years. Naturally, as soon as the Republicans assumed majority status this was abandoned, much to the detriment of true representative government.

Now the nation is saddled with career politicians who are captive to monied special interest groups. Career politicians who generally pay little attention to their constituents wishes  instead kowtow to their big campaign contributors. Faith and confidence in government by the average American has never been lower. Seldom do these career political hacks take into account what is good for the country. Instead they are looking forward to the next election and what actions to take so they are assured of re-election and a continued ride on the gravy train.

In order to alleviate this horrendous situation and bring back true representative government I would like to suggest a constitutional amendment. I would like to propose a one term limitation for all elected government officials. One term of six years for senators. One term of two years for members of the House. And especially one term of four years for presidents. No exceptions. No senators running for president. No members of the House running for the Senate. No ex-Presidents running for anything on the Federal level. An examination of second presidential terms shows the wisdom, with few exceptions, of having one term presidents. Serve one term and go home–for good.

Those who think we need experienced people running the government should look at the record of experienced politicians. We are trillions of dollars in debt with no end of the red ink in sight. We are bogged down in a war in the Middle East with no end in sight at least partly because some lily-livered politicians were afraid of putting a bullet hole in a mosque. The amount of government waste is scandalous largely because of pork barrel projects which career politicians must bring home to assure re-election and the influence of lobbyists seeking tax breaks and subsidies for their clients.

Limiting politicians to one term would eliminate most of these temptations. No longer would they have to depend on the monied interests for campaign contributions (known to me as bribes). No longer would they have to propose wasteful pork barrel spending such as the $200 million dollar “Bridge to No-Where.”

As a concession to those who want some experienced members in the House I suggest that the Amendment contain a provision for half the members of the House be elected in odd years and half in even years. This would give freshman members time to learn the ropes (hopefully, not too well) before taking leadership positions in their second and last year in Washington.

Of course, this doesn’t have a chance of seeing the light of day.

And this makes me FURIOUS!!!!

It's Time

In the American Revolution the watchword was, "No taxation without representation." This single abuse of power led to the revolution that created the greatest and freest nation ever seen on this earth.

These days if they just taxed us without really representing us it would be a great improvement.

We vote the Republicans in when they promise improvements in government. When they don't fulfill their promises we vote them out. Then we vote the Democrats in amid promises to be more responsive to the wishes of the people. What we get is more of the same just with different labels.

If this was really a free country we would be able to have alternatives to the Democans and Republicrats but we don't. The two dominant parties, I'd call them major parties but since neither really represents a majority of the people I won't do that, have the electoral process so stacked against any other party getting on the ballot it is almost impossible to make real change.

Both parties pledge to root out corruption but when a candidate has to spend millions of dollars to be elected to a job that pays $150k per year there is something rotten in Washington.

The government only represents the monied interests who make the huge campaign "contributions" that make the million dollar campaigns possible. The politicians may call them campaign contributions but when somebody makes a contribution and then has special access to an elected official and is able to influence legislation favorable to him/herself that is bribery, plain and simple.

Thomas Jefferson said, "Occasionally, the tree of liberty must be refreshed with the blood of tyrants and patriots." This seems like one of those times.

Sadistic Democrats

HR 6099 "The Federal Unborn Child Pain awareness Act of 2006" contains the following language:

`Your doctor has determined that, in his or her best medial judgment, your unborn child is at least 20 weeks old. There is a significant body of evidence that unborn children at 20 weeks after fertilization have the physical structures necessary to experience pain. There is substantial evidence that at least by this point, unborn children draw away from surgical instruments in a manner which in an infant or an adult would be interpreted as a response to pain. There is substantial evidence that the process of being killed in an abortion will cause the unborn child pain, even though you receive a pain-reducing drug or drugs. Under the Federal Unborn Child Pain Awareness Act of 2006, you have a right to know that there is evidence that the process of being killed in an abortion will cause your unborn child pain. You may request that anesthesia or other pain-reducing drug or drugs are administered directly to the pain-capable unborn child if you so desire. The purpose of administering such drug or drugs would be to reduce or eliminate the capacity of the unborn child to experience pain during the abortion procedure. In some cases, there may be some additional risk to you associated with administering such a drug.'

Under this act the woman seeking an abortion would be given the choice of having the fetus anesthetized while he or she is being killed. Because of a House rule this bill needed a two-thirds majority to pass. Anyone would think that such a bill, giving the woman a choice whether she wanted to insure that her unborn child would feel no pain while it is being killed, would pass without opposition.  However, because 152 Democrats voted against this bill the most helpless among us will still be subjected to unbearable pain.

This bill wouldn't force anything on the woman. It would simply give her the choice as to whether she wanted to have the fetus anesthetized. Yet the Democrats voted NO! The Democrats who claim to be very  big on choice voted against giving the woman this choice. Apparently the only choice the Democrats are in favor of is the choice to kill unborn children.

People who deliberately inflict pain on others are described as sadistic. This fits the Democrats precisely.

And these are the people that have been given control of the Congress.

This make me FURIOUS!!!!

How To Win

In one of his last acts as Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld sent a memo to President Bush with some suggestions about changing strategy in Iraq. One of the suggestions was to send troops to the borders with Iran and Syria to stop the flow of arms and terrorists from those two countries into Iraq. DUH! If it took Rumsfeld three years to figure that out I guess it's good that he is leaving.

What is with these people about securing borders? They won't secure our border with Mexico. Fortunately, most of those invading from Mexico are peons looking for a job, but no doubt there are a few terrorists thrown into the mix and of course the inevitable drug smugglers who will be given amnesty when caught so they can send Border Patrol Agents to prison by testifying against them.

Now as to winning the Iraq war it's really quite simple. Almost as simple as securing the borders so our enemies can't be reinforced.

We can win this war in the same way we won World War II. Then we sent armadas of bombers over German and Japanese cities and pounded them to dust. We can win the Iraq War by using the same tactics on a smaller scale.

When a roadside bomb, a so-called Improvised Explosive Device, is planted and eventually is used to kill or maim our men, the "innocent" civilians in the area are well aware that it has been planted. The reason they say nothing is because they are afraid of the terrorists and are not afraid of us. This must be reversed. But how do we accomplish this? By using the tactics that won the Second World War. When a roadside bomb goes off our men should be withdrawn a safe distance and an artillery barrage called in to level the immediate area. This may seem like a harsh measure but if the Iraqis are to fear us more than they fear the terrorists it is a necessary measure.

The same goes for any time our men draw any kind of enemy fire. At the first sign of enemy resistance our men are withdrawn a safe distance and the artillery is called in to do its thing. Once the Iraqis understand that their homes and families are in more jeopardy from us than they are from the terrorists they will be only too eager to help us.

Some will no doubt say that these tactics are too harsh. That we are killing "innocent" civilians. I say they are not innocent if they know our men are to be attacked and say nothing. They are aiding and abetting our enemies and are as guilty as the terrorists.

No doubt our cowardly politicians won't do any of these things and will continue to sacrifice our men unnecessarily.

Iraq Study Group

Just a short comment on the report of the Iraq Study Group. To tell how good this is for the United States all you have to do is see who likes it.

The Iranians  like it. The Syrians like it. The America hating leftist Democrats like it.

This bunch even went so far as to suggest bargaining away the Golan Heights from Israel back to Syria but not allow the Israelis to be in on the negotiations. They must have been studying Neville Chamberlain's diplomacy tactics circa 1938. If you're not familiar with this example of pure idiocy allow me to enlighten you.

In 1938 Chamberlain met with Adolph Hitler in an effort to avert war in Europe. Chamberlain ceded the Sudetenland portion of Czechoslovakia to Germany without the Czechs being in on the negotiations. We all know where that led.

The ISG report seems to be cut from the same cloth.

BEWARE!!!!

Now that the elections are over and the Democrats have won, with considerable help from the inept Republicans, let's take a look at what we can expect from this gang of defeatist, America hating leftists.
 Not necessarily in this order here are some of the things that will probably be coming down the pike.

Amnesty for illegal aliens.  Whether they are hard working peons looking for a better life or Islamic terrorists looking to set off a dirty bomb in the place where it will kill as many Americans as possible. This gang of leftists will pass amnesty in a cynical attempt to grab as many Hispanic votes as possible and the majority of the American public be damned. George Bush will sign this abomination so fast that smoke will rise from his pen. The only hope there is to avert this disaster is a filibuster in the Senate. That is if the Senate Republicans finally recognize that pushing amnesty is one of the policies that have made them the minority party. But given the traditional, monumental stupidity of the Republican Party I don't think there's much hope of a successful filibuster.

A tax increase. The Democrats are in the majority. 'Nuff said.

Cuts in military spending. See the previous sentence.

Attempts at greater gun control. As bad as the Republicans are the Democrats are even worse for violating our Constitutional rights. We can only hope any gun controls passed by the Democrat House will be stopped in the Senate or will be vetoed by the president.

I could go on much longer but writing this column is giving me a headache. I foresee a dismal two years ahead. the one thing we should all hope for is a viable third party coming into being before the 2008 elections.

The Best Government Money Can Buy

The title of this article is usually used to refer to special interest groups buying influence with legislators through the means of large campaign contributions. While this is true enough I'd like to look at a different aspect of money's influence on our elections.

The conventional wisdom indicates that the Republicans are due to take losses in both houses of Congress in the 2006 elections. Now an article in Barron's magazine says that, strictly on the basis of the amount of cash they have to spend advertising their candidates, the Republicans will retain control of both houses. Studies have shown, according to the Barron's article, that going back to 1972 the candidate with the most money is elected 93% of the time. In more recent years that figure rises to 98%.

So what we have is a situation where those serving in our government are not necessarily the most qualified but the most well heeled and they are literally buying their seats. The people and the nation deserve better. Something must be done to level the electoral playing field.

A limit must be put on spending. It has been reported that $2.1 billion will be spent on the 2006 election. This is absolutely obscene. It seems to me that 25 cents per voter in the previous election in a particular jurisdiction is enough to get a candidate's message out. If 100,000 people voted in an election then $25,000 could be spent on the next election campaign. Candidates could then speak at shopping malls, high school football fields and other inexpensive locations where they could really get in touch with the electorate. Instead of going to an endless round of money raising luncheons and dinners which begin the day after election day and last until the next election day. More time could be spent on the job they were elected to do. They might even have time to learn what is in the legislation they vote on.

Of course, this would require a Constitutional amendment since the Supreme Court (in it's infinite wisdom?) has decided that campaign contributions constitute free speech. All of the complicated rules now governing campaign contributions would be swept away and replaced by two simple rules: 1. Any candidate spending more than is allowed is disqualified from holding the office in contention. 2. Any campaign contributions in excess of the allowable expenditures goes into the general fund of the jurisdiction in which the election is held.

The benefits from such a plan are endless. Legislators who are not beholden to special interests, fewer phone polls and perhaps the greatest benefit of all an almost complete cessation of those mind numbing TV commercials.

If something like this isn't enacted soon I'll be FURIOUS!!!

If The Democrats Win The House Part ll

In Part I,  I listed some of the dire things we might expect to happen in the Middle East if the Democrats win the House in November. Here in Part II I'd like to list some of the things that are likely to take place if the Democrats take over in the House of Representatives in November.

It is almost a certainty that the Democrats with Pelosi as Speaker and Rangel as chairman of the Ways and Means Committee will rescind the Bush tax cuts. After all raising taxes is what the Democrats do best because they have had so much practice doing it. No Democrat even talked about cutting taxes after John F. Kennedy did until Bill Clinton was running for the presidency. As soon as Clinton was elected, true to his form as a Democrat and speaker with forked tongue, he proposed a tax increase.
The tax increase of 2007 will result in lower tax receipts and possibly higher deficits. The Dems, true to form, will cut the military budget to lessen the deficit. The increase will also lead to, at least economic stagnation and possibly a recession.

The border fence for the Mexican border, about which there is doubt even with the Republicans in power, will never be built. (A slight digression: China is building a fence along it's border with North Korea.) The loopholes in the border fence bill allowing the Secretary of Homeland Security discretion as to where the funds are spent will kill the fence.

The flood of illegal aliens will become a tsunami and the American middle class will suffer greatly as a result.

An amnesty bill will be passed by the House and be gleefully  passed by the Senate. President Bush will sign the bill and announce that  our illegal immigration problem has been solved.

I shudder to think of what might happen if the Democrats should also win a majority in the Senate. It will become impossible to confirm a judge who is to the right of Ruth Bader Ginsberg. In that event we might as well tear up the Constitution.

If any of this happens I'll be FURIOUS!!!

Dealing With North Korea

Negotiating with unscrupulous people is fruitless. That is why negotiating with North Korea is a waste of time. Clinton tried it during his term in office and was double crossed at every turn.

The only way to deal with people of this ilk is to deal from strength. We should tell these Commies, in a diplomatic fashion of course, that if they want to continue with their nuclear program that's their business. However, if they attack any of their neighbors, whether with nuclear or conventional arms, we will turn their sorry excuse for a country into a radioactive wasteland.

Any concessions to North Korea will be seen as weakness and will only lead to more attempts at intimidation.

It's time our leaders showed some backbone for a change.

If they don't it will make me FURIOUS!!!
